Ristorante India, Bologna

India - The Restaurant

For 2 years now we have wanted to try out this Indian restaurant in Bologna. But the chaotic parking and cameras flashing at non-Bologna centro number plates scared us and we kept putting it off. This afternoon, we wanted to attend the Bologna Motor Show and thought it would be a good time to lunch at India.

The Bar leading to the dining areas

The decoration is very exotic and pleasant with wooden furniture from India and psychedelic colours (the green, turquoise and fuschia are particularly fetching) on the walls and ceilings. The next time we move, I will ask to have my house painted with the same colours. The service is slow though. The nice waiter (from Pune) has been here for just over a year, doesn't speak Italian very well. One has better not be in a hurry.

Some of the curries and the Basmati rice

We were the only ones who ordered alot and ate alot. The Italians around us seemed to be more careful with what they order and ate mainly the tandoori and fried dishes. Our children were the only ones who didn't go for the non-spicy children's menu. Needless to say we attracted some attention. People next door kept smiling at us ("What gluttons," they must be thinking).

Jhinga Khady

We had cumin seed Pappadums, Naan, Cheese Naan, Aloo Paratha, Rice and Jeera Rice, 2 servings of Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Curry, Lamb Curry, Prawn Khady, Kashmiri Gobi, Aloo Gobi, Dhal Curry, Raita, Mango Lassi, Mango Ice Cream...Ate too much as usual.

Thin, crispy Naans

The Naans were thin and crispy - lovely. But the curries were so-so, a little fade even. I can do better, I think. But according to my Indian friends, India is the best Indian restaurant in Bologna. So I guess I won't bother trying the rest of them.
