Waffles!!!

Waffles

The Teenager made a new friend M recently at Ferrari's Summer Camp. The expat world being quite small here, I actually know the boy's mum. In fact, we've been saying that our boys should meet - never finding the occasion to actually make it happen.

Well, it happened without us doing anything about it and the boys seemed to enjoy each other's company. I've decided to invite M over for a play date today and remove him at the same time from his poor mum who has 3 other very young children to care for.

I've not made Waffles in a while and have decided to make some for the children - so that I can check at the same time if my machine is still working.

The boy arrived in the morning and his father left him at my gate - to walk over to the house (quite a distance) in the rain! I had to run out with an umbrella to get him.

Then I saw a dead rat (a small one) at the front of the house. Was it poisoned to death? Did the poison take only a day to work its black magic? Anyway, there are now more holes in the garden so we know that the rest of them are still alive. I am looking forward to seeing more dead rats. They look cuter dead. Almost as cute as Ratatouille.

Waffles :

300g Flour
1 Tsp dried Yeast (dissolved in a bit of warm water)
1/4 Tsp Bicarbonate of soda
1 packet of Vanilla Sugar
125g Sugar
2 Eggs (beaten)
125g Butter (melted)
300ml Milk
1 Tsp Salt
1 Tbsp Rum (optional)

Make a well in the flour and add the yeast liquid. Add the beaten eggs, sugar, bicarbonate of soda, melted butter and rum and whisk into a smooth batter adding the milk little by little into it.

Set aside for at least 2 hours. I usually leave it overnight (in the fridge after the batter has turned bubbly).

Heat up the waffle machine and grease it lightly if necessary. Ladle (mine's about 70ml) some batter into it and cook according to the instructions for your machine.

Serve the waffles with just a sprinkling of icing sugar or with whipped cream, nutella, chocolate sauce, ice cream, fresh fruit etc.

  1. Nasty Rat Haters!
    Foul Rat Tormentors!
You also seem to be happy about them poor rats dead! Awfully heartless!
Sure, dead rats cute, but you have no right to kill them, much less painful methods such as rat poison.
Live rats are even cuter, and they have a right to live.
You would be reported for animal cruelty.

    POOR LITTLE RAT,REST IN PEACE!

  2. It was poisoned to death, my dear. I'm sure they also have the right to spread deadly diseases to humans, you are welcome to them.
