Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland in 3D

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Even though our Italian is half-baked, we have taken to watching movies at the local cinema on a Saturday or Sunday, usually preceded by a greasy lunch at Old Wild West. And we like it even better when it's in 3D, popcorn and sparkling water safely stuck in the plastic holders attached to the seats.

This afternoon we caught Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. We are very fond of his movies and very much enjoy watching Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter act. However, this story has always been more successful with adults than with children - especially with Hub who never fails to remember that for once in his life, a very very long time ago, his father actually brought him to the cinema and it was to watch Disney's Alice in Wonderland.

The children liked it without disliking it. And it was a little long for them, I think. Though they had enjoyed Avatar which was even longer. Hub and I agreed that this movie could be just as well enjoyed in 2D. The 3D special effects were not anything worth talking about and especially we had a headache because the movie was somehow every dark.

I will try to buy the movie in 2D when it comes out in DVD - it is otherwise a very nice and colourful story with a feminist fibre and as always, nicely filmed and acted.

  1. Jonny Depp steals the scene everytime he is on screen, so does Helena Bonham-Carter. But otherwise, it is a bit disapointing.

I have never learnt the book, I do not remember seeing the WaltDysney movie. I was lucky to be with hubby, who explained to MarchHare ... Because the hares fight in March ...

I think it is really an English movie. You ought to have a Brit to explain all the sublteties of the film. Did you know why a mad hatter? Because hatters used mercury for making hat. They were becoming mad due to the mercury poisoning etc...

I much prefer Avatar. I am sure Depp could have been in Avatar .. lots of make-up he would have enjoyed it
